John: Hey Dave, how you doing?
Dave: Just fine nice to speak with you as always.
John: Thank you.
Dave: Today you will be thankful you were not here in central Indiana.
John: I am always thankful when Matt is there.
Dave: We were taking phone calls John and out of the clear blue sky a deluge of young
ladies started calling complementing Matthew on his web site picture.
John: (laughing) Then it must not be him.
Matt: Its me!
John: Yea, yea yea (laughing)
Matt: The ladies love me. Im not trying to make this a bigger thing than it is, but
these guys keep trying to knock me down. The ladies like the way I look. I dress for the
ladies. I wear my hair for the ladies. They enjoy it!
(for picture http://www.wibc.com/wilson/)
John: All I can say to those ladies is that lazier eye surgery is not that expensive.
(laughing)
Dave: Yea, get your eyes checked!! Good advice John! Well it has been very disturbing to
talk to these ladies calling in one after the other, complementing Matt on his looks and
how hot he is. They use his picture as screen savers and want more pictures of Matt on the
web site.
John: Well that is a new way to loose weight, looking at those pictures of Matthew.
Joe: I didnt think about the ladies trying to loose weight.
John: That is exactly what they are doing, they are trying to top each other.
Joe: It is a photo bulimia. (laughing)
John: Yea!
Dave: That sounds serious.
Matt: They love me.
John: Yea keep telling yourself that.
Dave: So tell us about your race day in Texas last Sunday John.
John: Well unfortunately in qualifying I think we had a really fast car, we just had some
gremlins in it that was really reeking havoc with us. We could not figure out where they
were coming from, so we basically rebuilt the car. I didnt, but my guys did right
there at the track. Then we got it right the next day and we were top ten in happy hour.
The car was really good. If a few things had fell a little differently for us we would
have for sure been on the lead lap. I do not think we would have had a shot to win the
race, because those guys at the front were really hooked up. We did have a car that was
capable of finishing in the top ten. I was really proud of my team who worked really hard
on it.
Joe: Isnt it almost better to have a total blow up when you qualify, so you have a
direction to go? You know you have to go exactly opposite to get things ready for the
race.
John: Well for us, it was not that way. We just had an electrical problem in the car we
could not find it. We kept changing things and finally we just changed enough stuff we
fixed it. You would not think there was that much stuff in there, but oh my god they kept
finding stuff to change. They did a good job and I cannot believe they got it all done.
Then with our luck when we went out to qualify, because we couldnt go on our number
which was lucky 13, from the draw. Then when we got up there someone blew up and dumped a
bunch of oil on the track and we had to go out there and run on that. That really did not
effect us as much as way the car ran. It wasnt anyones fault. It was just one
of those things we got caught up and couldnt figure out what it was. No one would
have been able to.
Dave: How are your plans for May coming along John?
John: Well I am glad you asked, because General Mills is a great partner of ours and they
want to be a part of what we want to do in Indy. We have been talking to them pretty
seriously, right now you have to make business decisions obviously and that is where they
are. We are late trying to figure all this out. Really if you look at it from our
partnership and relationship. It looks more like next year for us together. That does not
mean this year is not something. That is still there. We are working on something for this
year. They will still be a part of it, but they want to do it on a bigger level next year.
Dave: That would be very cool. We were talking about this today, seeing almost a replica
of your Winston Cup car on a Dallara or a G-Force car at the speedway, that would be very
cool!
John: I was really looking forward to it with all the with Pilsbury and General Mills and
all the products they have with Betty Crocker and Cheerios. With all the things going on
it would be a really neat car to have, like we ran the Pillsbury car this weekend. There
are a lot of cool cars we have coming up like the Berry Burst car at Daytona in July. Just
all sorts of types of paint schemes. The things they do for us is great and we really want
to give them the time they needed to figure out what will work best for them. They told us
and we will work with that and go on and see what we can do. This year was going to be
tough with the new engines and chassies and stuff, because the engine manufactures are
trying to get on their feet and get their footing as to how many engines they will need.
They do not want to be caught behind or have any problems at Indianapolis, obviously by
trying to supply too many teams. Then you have the chassis manufacturers and stuff. People
trying to figure out what car they want to run at Indy G-Force or Dallara. Its a
little tough now. Next year would be easier, but I do want to make it this year because of
Michael being there this year, but if it is not meant to be, it is not meant to be and we
will be there next year.
Joe: Now what about physically? It is such a drain on you, dont you have to try to
kick some kind of special workout in?
John: Actually, we train all the time so that does not change. What really changes when
you get out of the car at Indianapolis, I took two bags of IV even though I did not feel
dehydrated, but you are. You have been in a car, you have been sweating, and you havent
been drinking as much as you should and so you take that you are ready to go. You can get
something in your stomach and you are off and running, so it is not that hard. In some
ways it is a little easier if the weather has been nice in Indianapolis, so you do not
have to fret that. Otherwise you are sitting in Charlotte all day waiting for the
Coca-Cola 600 to start.
Dave: This keeps you busy.
John: yea it gives you something to do! All you have to do anyway is to talk to people, so
how is your car, well I dont know we will find out.
Dave: I tell you what John when you get back here we will keep the sushi going for you so
you wont have to worry about that.
John: Well I always know there is plenty of sushi in Indy, because they stock up for you
guys. I am looking forward to it and hopefully we can do that when I get back there to the
Brickyard. I keep telling Gary Putnam, we are running out of Greenville Pickins where we
just got done testing for Martinsville. I told him I make everyone get on the phone and
talk to you guys. I am going to make him get on and tell Matt
Dave: What a looser he is?
John: Yea, here you go!
Gary: Hello Dave.
Dave: Hi Gary how are you?
Gary: Good.
Dave: Has John told you Matt is a looser?
Gary: Yes he has.
Dave: Does he come on during a race sometimes and say that.
Gary: Yea he will say, it is a little tight off, but Matt is still a looser. (laughing)
Dave: Whether he is loose or tight Matt is still a looser. (laughing)
Matt: Tell him if maybe he would concentrate on the race he would win one.
Dave: Thanks a lot Gary it was nice to talk to you sir.
Gary: Nice to talk to you.
Dave: Talk to you later.
Gary: All right.
Dave: John?
John: Yea
Dave: Good luck this weekend buddy.
John: Thanks a lot guys.
Dave: Talk to you next Tuesday.
John: All Right.
THE END
