Dave: Hey John! John: Hey Dave! Dave: How are you sir? John: A lot better than Kyle. Dave: How is he feeling? He crashed pretty hard. John: He is pretty sore and beat up. Nancy and I, we went to see him today. He is moving around a little gingerly, but he got tore up pretty good. He looks like he has been in a fight. He did not bump his head, so that is a good thing. The rest is stuff that will just need to heal. Dave: Have you talked at all with your cousin Michael? He had a pretty good lick down there in Phoenix. John: No, but I saw his interview. I thought it probably wouldnt pay to call him right now. So, Mike how you feeling? Excited? (laughing) Dave: Well they have media day tomorrow at IMS and they are revealing the pace car and the driver and all the extra festivities around Michaels final Indianapolis 500 and his retirement from driving, so he should be in town. We ought to track him down Are you still there? (dial tone) Oh my goodness, he got tired of you Matthew already! Matt: I didnt even say anything yet?! Dave: Are you going to call him back? Matt: He will probably call right back. Dave: See if you can track him down, he was on his way home from Petty Enterprises and was delayed . There he is I bet Matt: Studio, its Matt. OK hang on. Dave: Is that John? Matt: Yea, hang on. Dave: John I apologize, that is the type of thing that Matt does. John: Yea, the only time I get cut off is when Matt is there. Dave: I know isnt that funny. Matt: Learn to use your phone. John: What? I was sitting here looking at dial tone. While you are over there going, hey Dave we lost him. Matt: I am minding my own business over here. Dave: Any how, I was in Phoenix with the race there so I did not get to see any of the race at Bristol, but I understand it did not go too well. John: The amazing thing is, before I got in my accident I had already missed two and my accident happened on lap 15. Dave: Oh my, you had missed two by lap 15? John: Yes I had missed two before the one I got into, so it was an ugly day. It certainly wasnt a day for anyone driving a Winston Cup car to be proud of. They crashed an awful lot of race cars and a lot of cars got tore up for no reason. Dave: Was there a lot of getting back at guys going on at Bristol? Is that the reason for that kind of stuff going on John? John: I do not know if it is that or if they have put their brains somewhere else other than their heads. (laughing) Mike Skinner told me on Friday, I wish they would give everyone some Vallium before we start this race. (laughing) Matt: Chill everyone out a little bit? John: Yea, and Schrader always walks around before the race going, sorry for when I take you out. The guy behind me hit me though. (laughing) Dave: You have excuses and apologies going on before the race starts? John: He apologized before the race even started! (laughing) Matt: That is funny. Dave: Now this week you are off to Texas, that is a very fast race track. Do you enjoy running out there? (silence) Matt did you do it again???? Matt: I am just sitting here! Dave: John???? Hello hello? John?? John: Get away from the buttons Matt! Dave: Step away from the board Matt. Matt: You know me I wasnt even listening, I did not hear a word you said. John: You are usually sleeping though. Matt: I know! John: And they pay you for that! Matt: He keeps waking me up when you are not there. Dave: I have got to tell you though as a quick side line, one of the guys working the boards for ABC Saturday. They caught him asleep under the board. (laughing) John: Guess who is looking for a job! Dave: No kidding. Matt: Im available, put me out there big Dave. Dave: Yea, you can sleep under a board with the best of them. Matt: That is exactly right! Dave: Now this weekend you guys are off to Texas, this is the question I was asking, do you like to run there? John: We have had a lot of problems at Texas, whether it be mechanical or just flat crashed. Remember the first two years of the race we had crashes right at the beginning. Hopefully things will settle down and hopefully it will be a better race for us. We always seem to run good there but, then we do not get any sort of we usually do not make it very far. Two years ago we had a really fast car, we were the fastest in Happy Hour I think, and it felt really good. Then the car dropped a cylinder on lap three. It is one of those places that has never been to kind to us, but lately like the past two years not many places are. Matt: Yea the list is growing. John: Yea, if they put you somewhere out there Matt I know it would change. You are such a good luck charm for me. I think ever since I have been talking to you, that has been the problem. Dave: Yea, I think so. You had pretty good luck until we got into it with you and Matt. John: The guy is like a voodoo doll. Stick a needle through him Matt: I have nothing but positive thoughts for you John during races. John: Yea, same about you Matt. Every time I am in sitting in a bathroom I think of you. (laughing) Dave: And he did say SITTING in a bathroom. (laughing) Hey I got pictures for you of where we are going to be holding the Kroger Race for Riley Presented by Cheerios this year. It is going to be at Fast Times up on the north side, John it is a great facility. You are going to enjoy it a lot. We have some new deals going on, a new format, so it will be very exciting. More people will be involved. John: I think it is going to be great, I was just on the phone with the VP of General Mills Racing. We were talking about the race and everything that goes along with it. They have been great supporters, along with Kroger and some of our local friends Gary Pedigo, Dennis Rinegold, Jeff Stoops . Dave: And the list goes on. John: Yea you name it, so many people have helped us out with that. I know that the people at Riley really appreciate it. Dave: And Hat World too. We have another deal going, we are going to open it up to a lot of people who have not been able to participate in the past. We have a lot of new ideas and it is going to be a lot of fun this year. Coming up the Wednesday before the Brickyard 400. The Kroger Race for Riley presented by Cheerios. John good luck at Texas this week and we will talk to you next week. John: Remember what the goal is, #1 raise money for kids, But #2 make sure Matt gets hurt. Dave: Make sure he is as sore as Kyle is. (laughing) Good Bye Buddy, well see you. John: Thanks guys. |
