(Clip plays of Jeff Burton ripping on John, saying that he could only
take John in small doses)
Dave: Hey John.
John: Hey, who put that on the air?
Dave: Your boy Matthew is running the board.
Matt: Its just Burton slamming him, might as well hear what he had to say.
John: I am going to have to turn him for that. (laughing)
Dave: Did you finish 16th Sunday?
John: Yea.
Dave: I couldnt remember if it was 16th or 19th. At one point you came in while
running 13th and pitted, then wound up 16th.
John: We had a pretty good car and made our way through, but there wasnt any long
runs. Everybody kept breaking engines, so every time we got into a 40 lap run. We could
have gone 100 laps on fuel. We really needed the long runs. The car we was quick when we
got out in the open. We could run as quick as the leader. The last set of tires we put on
and with caution after caution, we lost the handle on the car. We got really tight on the
last run. It was really frustrating to be on the last run of the race and be the worst we
were all day. We came out with a decent finish, but we had ran with Matt Kenseth all day.
Had we not pitted who knows. But with a lot of things in my life I would like to go back
and do it better. (laughing)
Dave: We are all like that, right Matt
.
John: That is the fortunate thing about hind sight. The way it is the car moved up one
position in the points and we are right outside of moving up another position. We are
headed in the right position. We just need to keep studying and working at it. We have a
few races to go and we will see what happens with next year.
Dave: Do you have any idea when anything like that may be announced or a decision like
that may be made?
John: A lot of it is based on teams timing and we have talked about the fact that
there is a lot involved. They have to get the sponsorship thing settled out before other
things can happen. Once things get settled with them, they will make a decision. There are
a few other seats are open too, so we will have to see how things play out.
Dave: We have our fingers crossed for you buddy.
John: Everything will be all right.
Dave: When are you coming back to Indianapolis, any idea?
John: No, I am going to surprise Matt.
Dave: We are trying to talk Susan Gyad, who is the food editor for the Star, she has never
been to a sushi restaurant and we are trying to get her to take you, Joe, and myself to a
sushi restaurant and talk about it in the Star.
John: How could you be a food editor and not have eaten sushi? Especially with us!
Dave: I agree.
John: We should take her out on one of those dinners
Dave: The progressive dinner
We will take her on the next one.
John: We can leave Matt!
Dave: Yea, we can leave Matt at home and take Susan.
John: That is a huge step forward.
Dave: We have another idea for a race too. Our friends at Midwest Scooters, one of our new
advertisers wants us to put you and Matt on scooters.
Matt: Ill smoke him!
Joe: You can do it on skate boards too.
Dave: You can do the motorized scooters or the 2 wheel 40 mph scooters. We can do what
ever you want.
Matt: Listen to him back out, he does not want any of this!
John: Listen to him (laughing).
Joe: Have you ever been on one of those skate board type scooters?
John: If it is anything that has a motor on it, I can beat Matt at it.
Dave: I saw Greg Ray going through the garage at the IRL race at Fontana with one of those
things. It is one of the most unbelievable things. He was going like 25 mph, standing on
this piece of wood.
Matt: Get him in on it too. Bring it on!
John: And to think I can pretend to be a producer, better than he can. (laughing)
Matt: I am down for that one, I think it will be a good one.
Dave: OK, John you take care and have a good time this week, and we will talk to you next
Tuesday.
John: Sounds good. Thanks guys!
