John will start the Daytona 500 based on his qualifying speed, which was the 4th fastest of the non-top 35 drivers. This guranteed start takes a ton of pressure off of the #14 VB/APlus at Sunoco Ford team and they can now use the Thursday qualifying race to work on raceday strategy for the big show on Sunday.

  John's post-qualifying comments:

“I don’t know what to say, I mean, I really don’t.  It’s just such a relief.  I’ve worried enough in the last two hours to last me the rest of my life. I’ve been sitting in this ‘bubble’ position for the last two hours and it’s been very stressful.  It’s just hard to explain the emotions.  We are a new team and we knew we had to be one of those four fastest cars outside the top 35 in last year’s owner points.  We did it. This was a stressful afternoon, but at least I can sleep tonight.

“I am so proud of this #14 VB/APlus at Sunoco Ford team.  Dave (Charpentier, crew chief) and the guys worked so hard over the winter and in testing to get ready for this season.  We’ve climbed a huge mountain today.  Hopefully we can use this as momentum into the rest of the weekend.”
